Chillon Castle

Chillon Castle in its present form is the result of several centuries of construction and redevelopment. The rocky island on which the castle is built provided both natural protection and a strategic location to control the passage between northern and southern Europe. The fortress, built on a real island, has been shaped like an oval. It measures approximately 100m by 50m. It also took its name from the rock, from an ancient language, in which the word "Chillon" means rocky platform.
